Build Overview
The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser is a rugged, versatile vehicle designed for both off-road adventures and daily driving comfort. When we got our hands on the LC250 just three months before SEMA, we knew we had a challenge ahead. This overland-inspired build needed to tackle steep trails with ease despite the heavy gear.
This build wasn’t just about off-road capability; it was about making every piece count for real-world functionality. Every accessory serves a purpose, whether for the trail, camping, or just making daily life more convenient. It’s a true adventure rig, ready for anything.
ENGINE & PERFORMANCE
To boost the Land Cruiser’s power and responsiveness, we equipped it with aFe POWER products. These performance upgrades come from a commitment to provide the power and efficiency needed for long trips with significant gear. The Intake, Charge Pipes, and Exhaust increased airflow, and the Scorcher Power Module was specifically chosen to give the Land Cruiser added torque, essential for climbing steep hills while fully loaded.
When you add all the extra overland gear—roof racks, storage systems, and a full kitchen—you’re looking at significant weight. That can really bog down a stock vehicle. With the aFe POWER upgrades, we’ve offset that. The Scorcher Power Module and intake system really wake the truck up, giving it the responsiveness and pull it needs, even when fully loaded. It’s all about getting the power where you need it. Whether you’re climbing steep trails or overtaking on the highway, you need that confidence under your right foot.

SUSPENSION
Given the demands of overland driving, we focused heavily on suspension.
When you’re carrying all this gear, the stock suspension just isn’t enough. That’s why we went with coilovers with remote reservoirs—they handle the weight and still give you excellent ride quality. Plus, the adjustability lets us fine-tune for both on-road comfort and off-road performance. The shocks and control arms are key here. The aluminum arms are durable but lightweight, and the adjustability means you’re not stuck with one setup. Whether it’s a weekend trip or a fully loaded expedition, this rig can handle it.

We were looking for a light bar and decided to make a bull bar with six attachments for lights. We also moved the tow hooks out about a foot for easier access compared to the factory tow hooks.

WHEELS & TIRES
Tires are the foundation of any overland build. We opted for 35-inch Toyo Tires mounted on ICON wheels for this project.
We debated tire size a lot. Going with 35s gives you the clearance and traction you need without overloading the drivetrain. It’s that perfect middle ground—you get the benefits off-road, but it’s still manageable on the highway. With a build like this, you want to balance functionality and capability. Too small, and you’re not taking full advantage of the platform. Too big, and you’re introducing wear and tear you don’t want. The 35s hit that sweet spot.
This tire size is ideal for the LC250, offering an optimal balance of off-road capability and on-road handling, an essential consideration for overlanding where varying terrains demand versatility.
