How to Identify Your Filter

aFe offers various engine air filter shapes, sizes, and media, depending on your vehicle and needs. You may have an engine air filter replacement that fits in your stock airbox, or your filter may be part of an aFe Cold Air Intake.

Locating the Part Number

The part number can be found on the flange opening in a small circle on conical or intake filters and on the side of rectangular filters.

Oiled vs. Dry Filter

Knowing whether you have an oiled or a dry aFe air filter is crucial, especially for proper maintenance. Oiled filters and dry filters are cleaned differently, and the oiled filter requires re-oiling after the cleaning, whereas the dry filter does not. Check the Color

You may be able to tell what filter media you have based solely on color, though because the dye in the oil fades over time, you may need to double-check.

Check the Texture

You may also check the texture of the filter media. The Pro DRY S media is synthetic, so it has a smooth texture, whereas the Pro 5R filter media is cotton, so you can see organic fiber’s woven patterns.
