At aFe POWER, we’re dedicated to enhancing vehicle performance, and in this project, we’re excited to showcase how our products can elevate the 2021 Jeep Gladiator JT EcoDiesel to new heights. In this video, Nick, Justin, and Chris discuss how we can restore and surpass the Gladiator’s stock performance using our Momentum Intake and Scorcher Power Module.

This specific Gladiator is equipped with 37-inch tires and a 6-inch lift, which have impacted its performance. Our mission is to bring the engine back to its stock numbers or better. The Jeep Gladiator features a 3.0L V6 EcoDiesel engine configured at 60°, with a 3000cc (183ci) displacement, 83mm bore, and 92mm stroke. It runs at a compression ratio of 16:1. Straight from the factory, this engine delivers 260 HP at 3600 RPM and 443 lb-ft of torque at 1400 RPM at the flywheel, but only 218 HP and 388 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels, with an airflow rate of 320 CFM.

Chris breaks down the technical improvements of the Gen 3 EcoDiesel engine over its predecessors. Some of the key updates include a strengthened engine block and improved oil drainage, which were necessary due to oiling issues found in earlier generations. The compression ratio was reduced from 16.2:1 to 16:1 to address emissions challenges. In addition, the pistons were redesigned to combat piston slap and rattling noise. By moving the wrist pin slightly back, they were able to reduce these noises significantly, making the engine quieter and more durable. Another major upgrade in this generation is the introduction of a Bosch fuel system, which operates at an impressive 2,000 bar (approximately 29,000 psi) to improve fuel delivery. The vehicle also features a Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) that further enhances airflow and emissions control, helping the engine run cleaner while maintaining performance.

To push this Jeep Gladiator beyond its current performance limits, we’re focusing on two core aFe POWER products: the Momentum Intake and the Scorcher Power Module. The Momentum Intake is designed to increase airflow dramatically, replacing the factory system and improving airflow from 320 CFM to 395 CFM, ensuring the engine breathes more efficiently. This alone will have a significant impact on both power and throttle response.

Paired with the Momentum Intake, our Scorcher Power Module will recalibrate the engine’s tuning by adjusting critical parameters like boost pressure and fuel injection timing. These refinements, thanks to our in-depth tuning expertise, will optimize combustion, minimize turbo lag, and deliver smoother acceleration. With these two upgrades, the Gladiator is set to see a +30 HP increase, raising its rear-wheel horsepower from 218 HP to 248 HP, and a +59 lb-ft boost in torque, from 388 lb-ft to 447 lb-ft.

Chris also emphasizes that our tuning is focused on restoring both low-end and high-end torque, as well as improving overall drivability. We’re targeting an airflow rate of 373 CFM at an AFR of 14.5:1, with an optimal flow rate of 463 CFM at AFR 18:1, ensuring that the engine not only meets but exceeds its stock performance levels.
