Sway-A-Way is an aFe POWER Brand

Sway-A-Way has been specializing in off-road racing shocks since the 1960s. In 2016, aFe POWER acquired the Sway-A-Way shock division to fully equip off-road enthusiasts with both more power and improved control. Since acquiring Sway-A-Way, we’ve improved quality and performance, including introducing compression adjusters for vehicles carrying extra weight.

What Makes Sway-A-Way Unique

Sway-A-Way Shocks are made in the USA, built in-house in Corona, California, with premium materials like CNC-machined aluminum and durable steel for long-lasting performance. Additionally, Sway-A-Way shocks feature corrosion-resistant zinc-plated steel bodies and red anodized aluminum components, and select shafts are coated with polished Nitro Steel.

The internal racing components are what set Sway-A-Way apart.

The internal racing components are what set Sway-A-Way apart—you get race-level technology not only on Race Shocks but also on Direct-Fit applications. Notably, the internal spacers act as a top-out hydraulic cushion, improving ride quality both on and off-road. Also, our pistons use high-quality race metal wear bands, while most other brands use Teflon wear bands. In addition, the O-ring behind the wear bands restricts blow-by, forcing oil through the valving instead of around the piston, dramatically improving performance.

Furthermore, all Sway-A-Way Shocks come with Viton O-rings, which retain their shape and durability up to 650ºF, compared to Buna O-rings, which only go up to 350ºF. This makes them ideal for competitive desert racing, when shocks are running under especially high friction. Together with our exclusive “Baja Blood” Shock Oil, a 7-weight full-synthetic highly recommended for desert racing, this setup promises a longer lifespan, more cooling, and better performance.

Product Offerings

Sway-A-Way offers both Direct-Fit and Universal Race Shocks. Direct-Fit products include 2.0″–3.0″ Shocks and 2.0″–3.0″ Coilovers. If you’re building a prerunner, rock crawler, or desert toy, Universal Race Shocks include 2.0″–3.0″ Coilovers, 2.5″ Bypass Shocks, and  2.0″–2.5″ Air Shocks. The Coilovers include hardware for custom spring setups, Bypass Shocks feature adjustable compression and rebound for precise tuning, and Air Shocks use nitrogen pressure for a lighter, more compact design.

Sway-A-Way Direct-Fit Shocks maintain factory shock travel without compromising rebound stroke to deliver the smoothest leveling experience, even in the roughest and harshest terrain. All Sway-A-Way Coilovers use Eibach Performance Springs, and by adjusting the pre-load with our provided spanner wrench, you can fine-tune your ride height to personal preferences or to account for extra weight, offering a customizability that sets our coilovers apart.

In addition, on all our shocks, dual-rate components—two different rates and lengths of springs—can be omitted for a single spring setup, or all spring hardware can be removed to run these as remote reservoir shocks. We also offer emulsion and remote reservoir versions, which are 8” stroke through 18” stroke, and in sizes from 2.0″ up to 3.0″, so you can fabricate to the desired extended and collapsed lengths.

Finally, we also offer essential Sway-A-Way Components, including bump stops, seal kits, valve stack kits, and master rebuild kits. These help prevent bottom-outs, maintain performance, and extend the life of your shocks. Additional items like shock oil, spanner wrenches, and nitrogen gauges make it easy to tune and service your shocks.

Modern Shock Technology

Shocks have greatly evolved over the years, and Sway-A-Way has been a key player since the early days of desert racing. With new technology has come new problems. The emergence of smart shocks and electronic nannies on modern vehicles can interfere with aftermarket suspension. Additional electronic deletions can avoid triggering traction control systems prematurely, so we offer Shock Delete Modules on select direct-fit applications with plans to expand to more platforms.
